Generic Doxycycline (semisynthetic tetracycline) is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, chlamydia, gonorrhea, acne, gum disease and more. Other uses of Generic Doxycycline include blemishes, lesions caused by rosacea, and other conditions.

Follow the exact instructions of your doctor when taking Doxycycline, and take it for the full extent of time as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take larger or smaller amounts than directed. Take it with a full glass of water and drink plenty of liquids throughout the time you are on this medication.

Please note that dosage may vary depending on your condition and/or age. Ask your doctor for the appropriate dosage and follow those instructions thoroughly.

You should seek immediate emergency help if you experience these allergic reactions: breathing difficulties, swelling of the mouth, tongue, face, lips or throat, hives.

If you experience any of the following side effects, contact your doctor:

  • Severe pain in the upper stomach that spreads to your back
  • Fever, swollen glands, joint sensitiveness and/or pain
  • Rash and/or itching, flu symptoms
  • Much less urination than usual - exhibiting dark color- or no urination at all
  • Pale or yellow colored skin
  • Watery and/or bloody diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Severe skin reaction especially in the face and neck area

Mild side effects include: light nausea, mild skin rash and itching, vaginal discharge and/or itching, mild stomach issues.

Do not use this medication if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. Taking Doxycycline while pregnant could harm unborn babies and/or cause permanent discoloration of their teeth later in life.

Doxycycline might lessen the effectiveness of birth control pills. If you are a woman and on birth control pills, speak to your doctor before taking Doxycycline and consider using non-hormonal birth control means such as condoms, spermicide, etc. to avoid unwanted pregnancies.

You should not take Doxycycline if you have allergies to this medication or other tetracycline antibiotics (e.g. Declomycin, Dynacin, Minocin, Solodyn, Vectrin, etc.), or others. To be absolutely sure it is safe for you to take Doxycycline, tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Asthma or sulfite allergy
  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease

Children under 8 years old should not be taking Doxycycline as they may develop permanent discoloration of the teeth as a result.

Do not take this medicine if have an allergy to Doxycycline or other tetracycline antibiotics.

Call your doctor if you miss a dose.  Do not take an extra dose to make up for the mixed dose.

Keep the Doxycycline in its sealed packaging at room temperature (77°F/25°C), in an air-tight container and away from children’s reach. Keep away from heat and moisture (do not store in the bathroom).
