Generic Cymbalta is most commonly used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) and general anxiety disorder (GAD). Generic Cymbalta may also be used in the treatment of: diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, chronic musculoskeletal pain due to chronic osteoarthritis pain, chronic back pain, nerve pains and arthritis. Generic Cymbalta is not a narcotic, but rather is classified as a SNRI (serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors) drug.
While it is hard to pinpoint exactly how Generic Cymbalta works, most clinical research suggests that activity to the brain and spinal cord is restored as a result of an increase of serotonin and norepinephrine. Take Generic Cymbalta exactly as it was prescribed for you. Swallow capsule whole. Never break, open, or chew the capsule. Generic Cymbalta can be taken with or without food. Try to take the medicine at the same time each day. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Do not stop using Generic Cymbalta without first talking to your doctor. You may have unpleasant side effects if you stop taking this medication suddenly.

The most common side effects associated with Generic Cymbalta are: nausea, fatigue, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, loss of appetite, and increased perspiration. Some patients over the age of 65 have reported a loss of balance and coordination when taking Generic Cymbalta that has resulted in falls and serious injury.
Seek medical attention if you experience any of the following side effects: stomach cramps, liver failure, fever, discolored or dark urine, muscle stiffness, disorientation, weakness, usual urine flow, yellowing of the eyes or skin.
In some cases, antidepressants may cause suicidal thoughts, primarily in children, teens and young adults. Contact a trusted healthcare professional if you experience suicidal thoughts, or if your depression worsens. Pay careful attention to any mood alternations particularly within the first few months of taking Generic Cymbalta and after a change in dosage.

Do not take Generic Cymbalta is you are currently taking, or have recently taken a form of antidepressant called monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or Mellaril® (thioridazine). Those suffering from uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma (increased eye pressure) should not take Generic Cymbalta.
Consult a doctor if you have a previous history of glaucoma, stomach problems, liver disease, kidney disease, seizures or epilepsy, a bleeding or blood clotting disorder, high blood pressure, bipolar disorder, drug abuse, depression, alcoholism.
It is not advised to drive or operate heavy machinery while taking Generic Cymbalta, as some patients have reported dizziness, fatigue and disorientation as a result of taking this medication. Inform your doctor if you are currently pregnant or intending on becoming pregnant whilst taking Generic Cymbalta. You should not take Generic Cymbalta if you are breastfeeding. Generic Cymbalta is only intended for adults over the age of 18.
Talk to your doctor before taking any medicine for pain, arthritis, fever, or swelling. This includes aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), diclofenac (Voltaren), indomethacin, piroxicam (Feldene), nabumetone (Relafen), etodolac (Lodine), and others. Taking any of these drugs with Generic Cymbalta may cause you to bruise or bleed easily.
Before taking Generic Cymbalta, tell your doctor if you are using any of the following medicines: blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin); cimetidine (Tagamet); a diuretic (water pill); fluvoxamine (Luvox); linezolid (Zyvox); lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith); St. John's wort; tramadol (Ultram); tryptophan (sometimes called L-tryptophan); an antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin (Cipro); almotriptan (Axert), frovatriptan (Frova), sumatriptan (Imitrex), naratriptan (Amerge), rizatriptan (Maxalt), or zolmitriptan (Zomig); or any other antidepressant such as desipramine (Norpramin), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), paroxetine (Paxil), and others.

The ideal temperature for storing Generic Cymbalta is 25°C (77°F), however it is safe to keep this medication between 15-30°C (59-86°F). Store at room temperature in a closed container protected from heat, light and moisture. Keep Generic Cymbalta away from children and pets. Always dispose of medicines safely.
